UNTOUCHED FOR MANY YEARS, THE RENOVATION OF THIS SYDNEY FAMILY HOME WAS EAGERLY ANTICIPATED.

Snuggled onto a sloping site overlooking the stunning Berowra Valley Regional Park, and bearing all the hallmarks of modernist vernacular architecture, this 1970s split-level home presented beautiful bones.

Admirers of the era, our clients were keen to accentuate the clean lines of the structure and echo the modernist characteristics in the decor, whilst gently coaxing their home into the 21st century and refraining from ‘stepping back in time’.

Playing with asymmetry and colour blocking, we elongated and emphasised horizontal and vertical elements leading the eye to the impressive high cathedral ceilings and across the open plan spaces. Walnut stained floors contrast beautifully with the Whispering White walls and ground the space throughout. With a colour palette that borrows blues and greens from the neighbouring landscape we established a subtle connection to nature and then defined the overall scheme with lineal and geometric black detailing. The introduction of voluptuous curves in the furniture, accessories and patterns balance the rectilineal structure and soften the scheme.

The result is a rich yet light-filled, spacious and comfortable interior fit for a modern family.
